Deepen your relationship with Michigan Underground Railroad history. Explore how this history can shape your perspective on the past, present, and future.
Join fellow community members in an opportunity to reflect on your personal relationship to The Underground Railroad - past, present, and future. We will collectively explore some Michigan history, dispel myths, and learn present day opportunities to deepen our connection to these important people and stories. We will also consider the importance of this history in the context of increasingly contrasting laws at the state and national level.
Presenter Adelaide Lancaster has spent more than 20 years engaged in the work of anti-racism, parent education, and community building. She is also named for two ancestors, one of whom was an enslaver in South Carolina and the other of whom was an Abolitionist and a documented part of the Underground Railroad in Connecticut. She is a member of the Michigan Freedom Trail Commission.
This program is presented in support of Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along the Underground Railroad, a traveling exhibit from ExhibitsUSA and the Mid-America Arts Alliance.
