Chris Dixon is a celebrated singer and actress who has performed her one-woman Harriet Tubman show for audiences in schools, community centers, churches, and theaters across the country.
Born in 1822, Harriet Tubman and her family were enslaved in Dorchester County, Maryland. Eventually known as the “Moses of her People,” Harriet escaped slavery to Philadelphia, where she made connections with abolitionists and became a conductor on the Underground Railroad. Once free, Tubman dedicated her life to the abolition of slavery and brought approximately 70 enslaved African Americans to freedom in the north. She spoke proudly of her accomplishments and famously stated, “I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.”
